Mid Century Modern Real Estate for Sale: June 8th, 2018

There is a wide variety of mid-century modern homes included in this week's roundup, and you'll find properties for sale in Michigan, Iowa, Arkansas and California. There is a surprisingly affordable foreclosure, a home by Frank Lloyd Wright's Master Builder and an E. Fay Jones design, among others. Happy home hunting!

Harold Turner home in Bloomfield Hills, MI - 3,625 sqft. ($900,000)

Today, June 8th, would have been Frank Lloyd Wright's 142nd birthday. Therefore, it's only fitting that we include some Frank Lloyd Wright related homes. This one by his master builder, Harold Turner, is very appropriate. This 1958 home cuts a bold profile with its jutting edges and sharp angles - a Turner trademark due to the difficulty of making them look good. Turner follows FLW's tradition with the use of a low carport and compressing entry, multiple level changes and a light filled main space. The free flowing open plan is made more interesting by the angled walls and there are plenty of nice details to enjoy. The house sits on a very private 2 acre lot.

Post and Beam Foreclosure in Anderson, CA -1,212 sqft. ($250,000)

Fantastic post and beam structure in this 1965 California modern home. Window walls along two sides of the home make it truly light filled. The open plan flows wonderfully around a large brick fireplace in to the dining area and a kitchen that looks to be totally original and in great shape. This house sits on 4 acres and looks to be in decent condition considering it is being sold as a foreclosure.

Modern House in the Woods in Ames, IA- 1,168sqft. ($335,000)

This house really makes the most of its sloping lot with banks of windows overlooking a stunning valley. The interior is filled with light and the windows invite you to enjoy the view and venture outside. Very usable open plan space. Property also includes 2 smaller structures currently used as studios.

E. Fay Jones Stoneflower Cottage in Heber Springs, AR - 1,859 sqft. ($399,000)

In case you missed it, we posted this 1965 house as soon as it came on the market earlier this week and there was a huge buzz, for good reason. This is truly one of architect Fay Jones' masterpieces. The home is beautifully placed in picturesque surroundings and boasts an unusually interesting design, tall and thin with the most dramatic projecting deck you'll probably ever see. There are so many great features here, from the cozy grotto beneath the main living space to the soaring ceilings and trademark criss-crossing purlins, to the magnificent hanging lamp designs to the...I could go on and on. A real gem.
