Stunning all original Hans Wegner Papa Bear Chair and ottoman. Incredibly comfortable chair by one of the true masters of Danish modern design. 
 
Both carry the tags of the high end store in Copenhagen, Denmark they were originally bought from in the 1960s, Illums Bolighus, which still exists today. The chair also carries a Danish Furniture Makers Control medallion and a '1' stamp in ink. The ink stamp is thought to be either the maker of the chair, the upholsterer of the chair or the Quality Control officer. These tags and marks make the chair not only undeniably authentic but also very desirable. 
 
This chair is in very good vintage condition. At almost 60 years old, it shows the kind of light wear you would expect around the arm ends, on the wing tips and on the front edges of the seat. The fabric in these areas shows slight wear/fading but the rest of the chair looks great. The ottoman upholstery is near mint. The teak legs and paws on both the ottoman and chair have beautiful grain and show minimal wear. Both the chair and ottoman are very sturdy.
