Authentic early production example of Isamu Noguchi's dramatic organic modern sculptural walnut and glass top coffee table first produced by Herman Miller in the late 1940s. This example has a beautifully grained solid walnut base that has lightened wonderfully over the years. It also features the much sought after green edge glass only found in earlier productions - prized for its shimmering quality and superior clarity. It also has the solid aluminum rod that joins the two pieces together. The straight rod allows the pieces to pivot freely compared to newer versions that have fins which lock the base pieces to a fixed angle. The rod is stamped 325 / 8 Made in USA. The base has the subtle concavity along the longest axis which is another detail for confirming authenticity. The base is in good shape with occasional finish wear and two old repairs where it has been reglued. Table stands perfectly and is very solid. The glass top is in good vintage condition with occasional light scratching and two small bites to the edge of the glass, more or less invisible if used facing downwards.
