Hans Wegner's AP19 'Papa Bear' chair and ottoman. Designed in 1953 and prized for its superb comfort and striking form. This example was reupholstered in the 1990s in an excellent cream Hallingdal 65 wool. It has teak legs and paws/nails on the end of the arms. Authentic features include the distinctive paws, the wedged tenon leg construction, back legs that run through to support the paws, slots in seat to recieve the webbing and an Ilums Bolighus metal tag. There is also a production date of 12/5/55 hand written on the chair (Dec 5th 1955).
The ottoman features teak legs and handles and offers the perfect foot rest for ultimate comfort. While the dimensions, proportions and teak handles are identical to the original, the ottoman is unmarked and construction differences suggest it was made in the 1990s to accompany the chair when both were reupholstered and bought by the previous owner.
