Rare extra large (60") diameter expanding dining table by Mel Smilow for Smilow Thielle circa 1952. Featuring a distinctive solid walnut butcher block top on a dynamic pedestal base that separates when the dining table is expanded. When together, the top is 60" across. Once the two latches are unlocked the table pulls apart easily for insertion of the two 18" leaves allowing the table to expand to an impressive 96" inches. The leaves are slightly darker than the main top due to different sun exposure. The whole top can be refinished for an extra cost to lessen the contrast if desired. Occasional edge wear and light marking across top.
