Striking form and craftsmanship combined in this woven cane and solid mahogany settee attributed to Paul Laszlo for Glen of California in the 1960s. Rare and sought after, this eye catching line incorporates nods to both Mexican and Danish modernism with its sculpted frame and deftly woven seat and back. Frame was meticulously taken apart, reglued and refinished and the cane was painstakingly rewoven to its original weave. Nicely angled seat and back priovide excellent comfort and superb style. I have made an effort to state the design is attributed to Paul Laszlo as there is no documented evidence that he designed it, only that the back frame bears a resemblance to other chairs he designed. This settee came with a chair and ottoman from the same line and all three pieces had a hand written date + 'J.M.' This one is 2/28/67 J.M. Other online examples have also documented the same signature and date notation, confirming their production to be the 1960s.
