Rare combined headboard and nightstands designed by George Nelson for Herman Miller's BCS group in the late 1940s. Based on the configuration it is possible this was a custom order made to fit a specific space or setting. Walnut headboard cabinets with tilting headboards newly upholstered in Maharam fabric, the headboards slide down to reveal two hidden compartments, easily accessible and one for storing perhaps more valuable items below. The nightstands are superbly functional with ample bedside surface and storage extpanded by a pull out platform.
The set is in original condition and does show the ocacional darker patch of finish wear. Pleae refer to the photos for examples of this. Structurally the cabinets are very solid and the headboard mechanisms function as they should.
Each unit is 56" wide with the nightstands taking up 18". The units are 13" deep and 39" high.
