Rare Walnut and cane armchairs designed by William Hinn for his Swedish Guild Collection for Urban Furniture in the 1950s. Sculptural walnut frames with exaggerated laid back stance accented by binder cane wrapped arms and cane paneled back. Sold and priced as a set.
Provenance: these chairs were owned by the designer William Hinn himself, chosen as living room seating for his own home which he also designed. I purchased them from his daughter who inherited them and provided the final photo showing five such chairs in front of the family fireplace. The fireplace was featured on the cover of House Beautiful magazine in February 1961. These chairs come with a custom back pillow made by the Hinns to protect the cane and enhance comfort.
