Mid-Century Modern Real Estate For Sale: June 15th, 2018

This week's roundup of mid-century modern real estate includes modestly priced homes, a stunner at nearly $3 million (!) and everything in between. There's everything from a post and beam classic to beautiful homes inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright.

Red Beam Modern in Salem, Oregon - 3,306 sqft. ($425,000)

Large post and beam modern with plenty of details to swoon over here: Walls of glass on front and back, integrated landscaping, wood paneling, central fireplace and great open plan flow. With the right furniture, some new kitchen cabinet fronts and a deck stained to match the house, this 1957 home could be a real showpiece.

John Randall McDonald Design in Brookfield, WI - 2,333 sqft. ($409,000)

This 1958 design from architect McDonald utilizes hexagons in the main living and sleeping areas to create unique spaces. Layered mahogany ceilings and beautiful brick details work really well. The house is built into the land in true Frank Lloyd Wright tradition.

A. Quincy Jones 1950 Home in Los Angeles, CA - 2,079 sqft. ($2,765,000)

Daring angles, level changes and loads of light sum up this Quincy Jones gem from 1950. While there have been a number of updates they don't overwhelm, allowing the original design to shine through. Way out of our price range at 2.765M, but it's nice to dream!

Beamed Beauty in Alma, MI - 3,215 sqft. ($325,000)

If you can look past the frilly ill-fitting furniture in this 1960 home you'll see the excellent bones and design to be had here. Strong Frank Lloyd Wright influence beginning with the balcony cantilevered in front of the garage, the open floorplan, soaring ceilings and windows everywhere. Plenty of original built ins and other details. The house is nicely embedded into the slope for a range of views.

Japanese Inspired Beauty in San Leandro, CA - 1,869 sqft. ( $747,000)

While we don't usually feature pending listings, we had to share this one. After all, you never know when deals will fall through and the property will return to market. This 1963 stunner designed by Shig Iyama is truly a piece of art. From the intriguingly modest front facade that gives nothing away to the choreographed entry courtyard with water feature this is a joy to experience. The understated design shines through with features such as the wood screen, minimalist fireplace and barrel vaulted roofline creating a relaxing oasis. Glass across the back looks out onto the backyard.
