Mid Century Modern Real Estate For Sale June 22nd, 2018

Who says great architecture has to be expensive? This week's round up of mid-century modern real estate for sale includes three homes under $250,000! Sure, there's also a California property for sale at $4.5 million, but we all need to dream, right?

P.S. We got a lovely voicemail from a reader in England who really enjoys our MCM Roundup posts! Thank you!!! It's so nice to hear that other people look forward to them and share our passion for finding all the great MCM architecture that's just waiting to be saved :)

Architect-Designed Fixer in Barrington, IL - 3 Bed/1 Bath ($229,000)

This is one of my favorite kind of listings: A really interesting, 1965 architect designed structure that needs some TLC but has huge potential to be a stunning home. The architect is not listed in the description but I'm already a fan. The redwood paneling, the sunken conversation pit below the magnificent stacked stone fireplace and the amazing room with floor to ceiling windows on 3 sides are just a few things that make this one special! Obviously needs a fair bit of work, but who doesn't love a project?

George Matsumoto Home in Rocky Mount, NC - 2,757 sqft. ($238,800)

Designed by George Matsumoto, the 1955 Thomas and Marian Hicks House has some great features. First and foremost is the living room with its fireplace and glass walls looking onto a walled courtyard. According to the description on USModernist the pitched roof was added and a lot of the original cherry and mahogany wood wall paneling was painted over. Still lots to like and a great price.

George Keck home in Ellison Bay, WI - 1,315 sqft. ($249,900)

Nice home designed by Chicago modernist George Fred Keck on 6 acres. Boasting great views of beautiful natural surroundings, plenty of light and great architectural details, this one could be a perfect getaway home. Love that stone fireplace at the center and the open plan flow. Interesting that the listing also states: 'This fully furnished listing offers a five-yr grant of option for an adjacent Keck home on 4.76 acres at $175,000.'

Frank Lloyd Wright Inspired Home in Columbus, OH - 1,702 sqft. ($319,900)

Despite the pretty awful phots in this listing, the architectural features shine through and the Wrightian influence is undeniable. Classic Usonian details such as the built in furniture, hanging shelves, piano hinges on cabinets, horizontal emphasis, built in lighting and an abundance of natural light all make this 1966 house a treasure of a home.

Mario Corbett Stunner in Healdsburg, CA - 3,670 sqft. ($4,500,000)

Live large in style in this 1955 Corbett designed home. Natural light, interesting angles and level changes make the main living spaces a joy to experience. Love the two-sided fireplace and the connection to the outdoors. Once you get past photo 20 however, the house loses its cohesiveness as the 'updates' take over. The images that follow could be of several completely different houses!
