Mid-Century Modern Real Estate For Sale July 13th 2018

There are some pretty spectacular homes available for sale this week if you're a fan of mid-century modern architecture. The showstopper is the domed home by Paolo Soleri, but there are also stunning houses for sale in Wisconsin, Minnesota, Connecticut and Washington.

Paolo Soleri Dome in Cave Creek, AZ - 1,065 sqft. ($300,000)

If you're looking for unique, it doesn't get more unique than this domed cave in the desert designed by Paolo Soleri with Mark Mills. Perhaps best known for his beautiful sculptural bells, Soleri was an Italian-American architect who designed modern structures and taught architecture at Arizona State University. This home was designed for Mrs. Nora Woods in 1949. Architecturally significant and visually stunning, this structure needs saving and restoration! Constructed in a similar fashion to Frank Lloyd Wright's Taliesin West using 'Desert Concrete', the home is an organic architecture bunker of sorts, set below ground level with curved forms and built in furniture. John Randal McDonald home in Racine, WI - 1,091 sqft. ($114,900)

The very first home designed by the prolific architect, this small gem is a real find. While the house needs some TLC, the home is packed with great design as McDonald skillfully lets the structural details speak for themselves. A little work to make the house feel more cohesive and a touching up the wood stain would go a long way. A great project for the architecturally-minded.

Post and Beam in Lake Forest Park, WA - 1,990 sqft. ($495,000)

This 1956 home has great bones and many original features. The high contrast post and beam frame looks great and the original wood paneling and fireplace add to its authenticity. A little work to replace the kitchen cabinet fronts, some landscaping and some vintage mid century modern furniture would make this one shine. Nice and private, it has a lovely little balcony running the length of the house looking out over the ravine.

Last but not least is this architect-designed 1964 post and beam home with heaps of character. Just check out that fireplace and the built-ins.
