Mid Century Real Estate For Sale, October 12th, 2018

Mid-century modern design doesn't originate from a single decade. If you're looking for mid-century modern homes for sale, stay open to homes like these,  which date from the 1950s, 1960s, 1970s and even one from 1980. Typically, when we search for mid-century properties, we look for homes built between 1950 and 1970. However, extending that range can reveal a number of spectacular homes that embrace the mid-century modern aesthetic.

Large Post and Beam in Weston, MA - 4,178 sqft. ($1,150,000)

Very large 1972 home in the woods with plenty of windows and light. Real open plan living that includes an indoor lap pool and 2 kitchens. While the lighting is slightly institutional, that's a simple fix. We  love the all glass room that leads on to the upper deck and the massive structural beams. There's even a tennis court!

Bargain Contemporary in Crete, IL - 4,822 sqft. ($160,000)

If you're looking for space and design on a budget then this is the one for you. Almost 5,000 square feet of open plan living including a conversation pit, five lots of wooded land, large windows and plenty of light. Since it's being sold as is with no repairs, expect some issues to come up during inspection. Nonetheless, this could be a great chance to buy good design.

Custom Modern in Fullerton, CA -  2,700 sqft. ($975,000)

Plenty of character to be found in this 1962 mid century modern home. With its distinctive window screens, stepped built in cabinets and beautiful wood paneling, when it comes to original features, you will be spoilt for choice in this home. While we're not fans of the front door, that's an easy one to change. We love the striking brick fireplace, the walls of warm wood, split level entry, band of clerestory windows and the landscaping.

Unique Modern in Woodbridge, CT - 4,300 sqft. ($875,000)

A truly eye catching design by architect Jonathan Isleib, this 1980 home is based around two 'pods' and  has some great spaces and details. Soaring ceilings and a completely open plan main living floor is based around a central staircase. We really like how the built in sideboards act as staircase railings and the central skylight. Loads of space and a lush landscaped lot all make up for the dated looking 80s bathrooms.

FLW Apprentice Home in Ossining, NY - 1,590 sqft. ($849,222)

Designed by David Hencken and built in 1956, this Usonian home sits on 17 acres of beautiful wooded land. With its sleek angled roof, stone fireplace and gorgeous mahogany throughout, this is a treasure of a home. A favorite detail is how the glass meets the roof plane without any visible frame ( the roof boards conceal the mullions).
