Mid-Century Modern Real Estate For Sale: December 7th, 2018

We're in a Midwest state of mind this week, and our real estate roundup reflects that. We're featuring two great Michigan homes (one by Norman Carver, the architect who designed our home) as well as a bargain fixer-upper in Illinois for a staggering $49,000. We also added two beautiful California properties for our West Coast readers. Check them out!

MCM Fixer at 49k in Chicago Heights, IL - 3,336 sqft. ($49k)

It's not often you find an architect-designed house being sold for less than $50k, but this 1966 property is just that. Granted, it needs a ton of work but the bones (general characteristics) are great. I have no idea about the actual structure so make sure a thorough home inspection is done. Love the brise soleil panels, the 3 Wrightian fireplaces, level changes and plenty of windows (many of which need replacing). This could be that project you've been looking for.

Architect Home in Grand Blanc, MI - 1,745 sqft. ($227,993)

Lots to like about this 1969 home from the perimeter decks to the ample natural light and the all-original kitchen. In a private, wooded location, this west-facing house will enjoy sunsets and plenty of wildlife. Lots of nice built in storage and desks and a great architectural staircase. Terrible wall paper really distracts from the modern lines and should be removed asap!

All Original Eichler in Orange, CA - 1,928 sqft. ($745,000)

I usually shy away from including Eichler homes due to their mainstream coverage and price but this one is a superb example of original features that just needs to be seen. Check out the kitchen cabinets, mahogany wall panelling, light fixtures and walls of glass. This 1964 4 bed, 2 bath Claude Oakland model is a restorer's dream. Get on it!

Light-filled Mid Century Modern in Carmichael, CA - 2,384 sqt. ($599,900)

This is an eye-catching 1962 modern home with some really nice design elements including a Mondrian inspired facade, a carport below the house, a very open floor plan and plenty of light and privacy. The fireplace is very reminiscent of architect Carter Spark's designs so there may be some connection there. A really well done renovation with updates mean this house is move in ready.

Norman F. Carver Jr. Designed house in Kalamazoo, MI - 2,420 sqft. ($194,700)

Come be a fellow Carver home owner and live in this great house by our architect. Japanese inspired architecture in this custom 4 bed 3 bath home filled with light, built ins and unique architectural features. While the house could use some gentle updating, it's all original from 1962. I love the wood grille across the front of the house which provides privacy and allows plenty of southern light (and heat) to shine into the house. On a .4 acre wooded lot the house has a very private feel as it is a the end of a culdesac. Loads of interest in this house already so be prepared to compete.
