Mid-Century Modern Real Estate For Sale: January 31st, 2019

Being stuck at home during this polar vortex has given us the chance to find some remarkable mid-century modern homes this week. They are full of character and quality design that's becoming harder and harder to find these days. Feast your eyes on the five homes and if it looks like your kind of home, make it happen!

All-Original Wrightian Home in Orangeburg, SC - 3,798sqft. ($130,000)

This striking 1960 home on a half acre designed by architect Dean Bryant Vollendorf (who worked with John Randal McDonald) has it all. We love the carport, entry, stair details, multiple split levels, trellis off the back deck and the all original interior. Obviously the home is full of clutter and the photos don't show it at its best but what a find! $130k for nearly 3,000sqft of design gold is a steal. This one Will. Not. Last.

Taliesin Apprentice house in New Rochelle, NY - 1,394 sqft. ($349,000)

Love the aesthetic of this house overlooking a lake in a great location. Designed by Kaneji Domoto who also designed five houses in Frank Lloyd Wrights Usonian community in Pleasantville, NY. Excellent honest use of materials with wood ceilings, cork floors, a concrete block core and views for days. I'm sure it has a great fireplace behind the staircase but a few hints of water damage probably put the listing agent off from including it. Very unique home full of character with some exquisite design details.

Unique Home in Groton, MA - 2,658 sqft. ($375,000)

Lots to like about this design with its large areas of glass, multiple, yes, multiple, conversation pits, built ins, views and 6 acre lot. Very interesting home with amazing potential.

Stunning House in the Woods, Long Valley, NJ - 3,180 sqft. ($699,000)

What's not to like about this house? Japanese inspired design by Cuban modernist architect Mario Romanach on a beautifully tranquil site. Double story windows flood the interior with light and make the view a joy to watch. Love the loft feel, crisp details and the peaceful atmosphere throughout. And don't forget the pool deck for the summer months!

Gutted MCM with Great Potential in Jackson, MI - 3,310 sqft. ($199,900)

Great 1965 house in an amazing setting overlooking the beautiful Grand River. The only catch is that it has been completely gutted. Howver, that could be a good thing as it lets you put your stamp on a house. Fortunately, the stacked stone fireplace has been left intact and the value is in that view and the architecture that makes the most of it. Love the little step down into the living area, the built-in seats in the den below and of course that amazing setting.
