Mid-Century Modern Real Estate For Sale: August 16th 2019

While there are beautiful and original mid-century modern homes all across the country, this week many of our top picks come from the South! More particularly, we found two great homes in North Carolina (including a BARGAIN of an A-Frame) and two in Arkansas. Plus, check out the modern retreat in Poughkeepsie, New York.

Courtyard Modern in Magnolia, AR - 3,472 sqft. ($269,000)

Multiple courtyards let loads of light into this 1958 home that has a great floorplan and plenty of space. Love the concrete block entry, the floor to ceiling windows and exposed structure throughout. Although some element - such as the front door and kitchen cabinets - have been insensitively updated, these are easy fixes and the house oozes mid century modern character.

A-Frame Bargain in Franklin, NC - 1,616 sqft. ($69,000)

Set on a picturesque wooded acre overlooking a stream, this mid-century modern A-frame has it all. Love the original interior materials: natural tongue and groove ceiling, dark beams and white walls for that pure minimalist look. The stone fireplace is a fantastic touch and that loft space above the living area with the wall of windows is perfection. People will be fighting for this 1971 hideaway so it's a good thing theres another cabin (possibly for sale by the same owner) on a neighboring lot.

E. Fay Jones Home in Cherokee Village, AR - 926 sqft ($139,500)

Architects have always enjoyed the challenge of designing the perfect small home and this 926 sqft. gem is a perfect example of that. With Jones' signature details and mastery of light and space the house appears far larger than it should (despite the crappy listing photos). Built-ins, custom woodwork and an impressive stone fireplace round out this impressive mid-century modern home.

Architect's MCM Home in Hickory, NC - 1,595 sqft. ($199,900)

Jim Sherrill's 1956 personal home is a stunner. Post and beam structure, panelized walls, open plan and filled with original features. Beautiful setting and strong connection to it through ample windows. Another one sure to start a bidding war.

Modernist Retreat in Poughkeepsie, NY - 2,048 sqft. ($269,900)

While the interior of this 1966 home is cluttered and has been 'updated', the bones and design shine through and this could be a fantastic modern retreat. Love the setting amongst rock outcroppings, the wrap around porch and simple modern proportions.
