Mid-Century Modern Real Estate For Sale, June 7th, 2019.

This week's real estate roundup includes great design all across the country. Plenty of architect-designed houses by the likes of Alden B. Dow and John Randal McDonald, among others. It's also a reminder about the value of good photography and staging when selling a mid-century modern home - sometimes the listings leave a lot to be desired! Check out these newly-listed properties in Michigan, New Jersey, Ohio and Wisconsin.

Alden B. Dow Home in Okemos, MI - 2,522 sqft. ($325,000)

This stunning home designed by Alden B. Dow was built in 1960. It is in amazing condition and is situated on a half-acre lot. There is so much to love about this house. Look for the classic details, loads of light and glass, great fireplace, beautiful lot, etc. Buy this home!

John Randal McDonald Home in Beaver Dam, WI - 2,392 sqft. ($345,000)

Great organic architecture by JRMcD which unfortunately suffers from some terrible photography. If you search the address (1408 Hiawatha Drive) you will find much better photos than what the listing offers. This mid-century modern home features beautiful stacked stone, a lake front site and plenty of built-ins. It looks like the owners have unwisely removed the built in seating and Usonian style furniture from when it was listed in 2016 - hopefully new owners will be sensitive to the architecture and make the necessary replacements.

Raccoon Island Modern on Lake Hopatcong, NJ - 2,824 sqft. ($250,000)

While the photos of this listing don't help convey the house very well, it's undeniably interesting and has great potential. Cantilevered over the lake cliff on huge concrete pilotis, this home features a double height living space with loft above, a large outdoor covered deck and fantastic views across the water. It's nearly 3,000 square feet on 1.25 acres and needs someone who can appreciate the bones.

Peaked Home in Pepper Pike, OH - 3,509 sqft. ($549,000)

Check out the interesting multi-plane roof and interior space in this 1966 home by architect Charles Haertling. This mid-century modern house could definitely be a show stopper of a home with the right furnishings - the current setup of Georgian (?) furniture is so out of place it's verging on ridiculous. Very unique home for the right buyer, and located in a well-established community known for it's mid-century modern architecture.
