Mid-Century Modern Real Estate for Sale: January 12th, 2018

This week, a Frank Lloyd Wright building in Whitefish, Montana, was demolished. Although it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the structure from 1958 was literally torn down in the dark of night. If total demolition can happen to Frank Lloyd Wright buildings, it can happen to them all. If you're in the market for a mid-century modern home, consider one of these great properties from around the country. Know anyone thinking about buying a home? Send them some of these Zillow listings and encourage them to save an MCM residence.

Affordable MCM in Jacksonville, FL - 1,705 sqft. ($169,000)

This home by architect George Fisher was built in 1959. Classic post and beam construction with plenty of natural light from big windows. The original tile flooring looks to be in great shape and the price is very reasonable. We've been to the neighborhood before to see another great house just a street or two over from this one: The Butterfly House.

Lakefront E. Fay Jones in Heber Springs, AR - 4,022 sqft. ($595,000)

This big home situated on a lake in Arkansas isn't attributed to architect E. Fay Jones in the listing, but it's very likely one of his designs. E. Fay Jones was an apprentice of Frank Lloyd Wright who lived and worked in Arkansas, putting him in the right location. This lakefront MCM home boasts some of the architect's signatures, such as the ceiling details and repeated vertical slats on the balconies. This 1969 home offers amazing lakefront views and two levels of deck to enjoy them.

Upscale MCM in Nashville, TN - 4,463 sqft. ($1,479,000)

The bedrooms and bathrooms are rather ordinary, but the right furnishings could inject some MCM flair. To top it off, there's also a pool on the nearly one-acre lot.

Mid Century Church Turned Home in Benton, IL - 5,500 sqft. ($275,000)

It's abundantly clear from first glance that this is no ordinary home. The roof, which boasts curved laminated beams, is not what you might find in a traditional residence. The building was once a church, but has been transformed into a mid-century modern masterpiece that you can call home. Built in 1965, the home features dramatic soaring ceilings, lots of square footage and a great loft level. As a former church, you can also expect lots of glass and light. This is far from cookie-cutter!
