Mid-Century Modern Real Estate for Sale: May 4th, 2018

Some amazing mid-century modern properties for sale this week! There's a wide range of homes, starting with the bargain MCM house at just $95,000. At the upper end of the price range, there's a Frank Lloyd Wright property in Missouri priced at just under $2 million. Whatever your budget, there is a unique mid-century modern home for you!

Bargain Unique MCM in Evansville, IN - 2,800 sqft. ($95,000)

An eye-catching 1951 design from the carport to the window wall and open plan living/dining area, this home definitely has character. At 95k for 2,800 sqft on a 1/2 acre lot, this is a true bargain. Although the description states it needs TLC, it does not look in bad condition- perhaps a bit of paint on the roofing over the deck and some mechanical updates -but really for 95k what do you expect?!

Monochromatic Minimalism in Dallas, TX - 1,584 sqft. ($499,000)

While we're not usually fans of the white washed treatment a lot of MCM homes seem to get by 'designers', this one works beautifully with a good balance of contrasting black/dark elements punctuating the space. That it's a great house design also helps!

Paint that accentuates interesting architectural features on this 1950 build, combined with tasteful minimalist updates, makes this a very successful renovation.

Pappas House by Frank Lloyd Wright in St. Louis, MO- 3,000 sqft. ($1,950,000)

And now, a house that needs little introduction! Designed by Wright in 1955 but completed after his death in 1964, this is a unique terracotta tinted Usonian Automatic that is just as much sculpture as it is a home. Beautiful architecture in a superb 3.364 acre setting. For sale by the original owners, this is a unique opportunity to own art as architecture. The sale includes all original FLW designed furniture.

Edward Humrich Design in Riverwoods, IL - 2,184 sqft. ($574,900)

This is a wonderful light-filled home with warm woods and open plan living. Post and beam structure, walls of windows and wrap around porch show a strong Japanese influence which we are always fond of. Love the blue tile in the kitchen. A bit inconsistent that one section of the roof has the joists painted white, but it helps brighten the space.

Endangered MCM in Houston, TX - 3,159 sqft. ($339,800)

The sprawling mid century home has heaps of character and sits on a premium lot in the Meyerland district. Unfortunately, the home was flooded during Hurricane Harvey and now it is being priced with lot value in mind - promoting new construction. Although the listing says it would be spectacular to restore, that is obviously less likely, especially with the lack of interior photos. Save this house!
