Mid-Century Modern Real Estate For Sale: January 25th, 2019
This week we've found a real treasure trove of mid-century modern homes for sale. If you're looking for all-original time capsules, there are affordable homes listed in Georgia and in California. There's also some incredible organic architecture in Colorado, a fantastic California-ranch style home in Illinois and a gorgeous Deck House in Connecticut.
All-Original 1961 Modern in Augusta, GA - 3,190 sqft. ($320,000)
Feast your eyes on the original details of this home in Augusta, Georgia. Starting with the bridge entry, you enter a classic mid century home with a super cool circle motif metal screen. The kitchen is all original and there are some great built-ins. The back of the house is nearly all glass. With some decluttering and the right furniture this could be a truly standout home.
Mid-Century Modern in Twentynine Palms, CA - 2,022 sqft. ($249,000)
Character galore in this 1958 MCM ranch in Twentynine Palms that is just three miles from Joshua Tree National Park. We love how the slate floors contrast with white walls. The freestanding retro fireplace is superb and the huge windows make the light quality throughout fantastic. Hopefully, the affordable pricetag gives you room to add some style to the 80s-style kitchen. Outdoor areas are nicely shielded for privacy and from the sun. The lot has space for a pool and there's an existing workshop that could be turned into a Cassita.
Deck House in Ridgefield, CT - 2,610 sqft. ($825,000)
I'm a big fan of DECK Houses because they offer such livable space and this one is a perfect example. With its south facing, light filled living area, to the multiple outdoor options (cooler carport to the north, deck and patio to the south) it's got it all. Open plan with four beds, two baths and a large family room opening out to the patio. This 1973 house also has a separate double garage (newer but complementary in design to the house) and sits on a 3.5 acre lot with great views.
Organic Architecture in Boulder, CO - 2,324 sqft. ($1,395,000)
You'll be hard-pressed to find a more unique home on the market right now. Designed by Charles Haertling, this 1973 piece of organic architecture has some very interesting spaces. It gains a lot of light and heat from southern exposure and has an awesome curved fireplace. Check out those angled walls covered in strips of wood and that amazing loft. Pricey but truly original.
California Ranch in Rockford, IL - 2,907 sqft. ($275,000)
Although the photos are limited in this listing, the potential is undeniable. Classic beamed ceilings, walls of glass, brick fireplace and the promise of loads of original interior goodies are definitely worth a look. The house sits on almost 4 acres, has an in-ground pool, built-ins, family room and even a greenhouse!
P.S. Rockford is also home to one of Frank Lloyd Wright's most interesting homes, the Laurent House - click the link for our photo tour of the property.
